PIJAC PetAlert: HR 669 CONGRESSIONAL HEARING ON THURSDAY! MAKE SURE YOUR VOICE IS HEARD!

HR 669, the Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act, is scheduled for a Congressional hearing IN THREE DAYS – THURSDAY, APRIL 23. PIJAC’s Marshall Meyers has been invited as the sole spokesman for the private sector – pet owners and the pet industry first and foremost – at this key hearing, testifying against the bill in its current form.

This bill would ban species not native to the US and not specifically approved by US Fish & Wildlife Service. MOST pets are not native to the US – including fish, birds, reptiles and small mammals. AND, this bill bans sales, transportation, breeding, and importation of these animals. PIJAC supports the underlying intent of HR 669 to establish a risk-based process to prevent the introduction of potentially invasive species, but the bill as it is currently written falls far short of reaching this objective.

The pet industry and pet owners have responded in great numbers, rallying together to fight this bill. We must keep the momentum going. H.R. 669 stands for House Resolution 669 and is titled "The Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act". It is a bill currently before Congress that if passed will change the way that the US Government classifies animal species that are not native to the United States. H.R. 669 will make it illegal to breed and sell many animals that are very common in the pet trade.

You can help by standing up and making your voice heard. Let your Representative know that you oppose H.R. 669 as drafted and the financial and/or emotional effect it will have on you, or your friends, or your family members if it passes. More
