Oregon Bill Calls for Exotic Animal Permits

Oregon Senate Bill 391 changes the state’s definition of "exotic animal," by adding and deleting certain species as well as mandates a permit requirement for possession of an "exotic animal." The bill also proposes sale and breeding restrictions for "exotic" animals. The bill further requires any person who keeps an exotic animal in the state to obtain a valid Oregon Department of Agriculture permit for that animal. More

New York Seeks to Limit Ownership of Intact Cats and Dogs

Legislation relating to the registration and regulation of animal breeders, as well as limits on intact cats and dogs has been introduced in the New York State Senate. The first of two measures requires the registration and regulation of animal breeders; requires each to be licensed; and creates a breeders licensing fund. The second measure relates to the definition of pet dealers and also provides that no person or business who buys, sells or offers dogs or cats for sale to the public or at wholesale shall possess or own more than 50 cats or dogs with intact sexual organs. Mars Petcare to Close Three Plants Later This Year
