Let’s remix this business!
Today is a day I have been looking forward to for months. I’ve had dreams about it. I’ve gone on and on about it in conversations with friends (and yes, sometimes strangers). I’ve posted statuses and pictures about it on Facebook. It is a day I know will bring countless smiles to my face, and the beginning of an exciting few months, to say the least.
Are you excited yet? You should be. Today is the official DVD/Blu-Ray release of the historic, epic motion picture … wait for it … Pitch Perfect! (insert girlish screams and childish dance moves here)
Now, I know what you’re probably thinking. “Are you kidding me with this? This is a 30-year-old professional with the important task of entertaining me with a weekly blog post, and she’s talking to me about some movie where college students sing a cappella music and dance in a Bring-It-On-type competition?”
And do you know why?
In the world that we live in today, it is now more important than ever for people to have something to look forward to – something that makes them happy – something that drives them to continue on.
You may live for your child’s upcoming holiday recital. Or you may long to be back with your family for the holiday season. Or you may just look forward to a frosty libation with friends and coworkers at the end of your workday. Whatever it is that gets you up and going for the day/week/month, I’m here to tell you that it is important and you should embrace it.
We all go to work each and every day, and sometimes that monotonous task starts to look like too much. Here at MultiView, it is no different – with one giant exception. That monotonous part doesn’t really apply.
Yes, we all have the menial tasks we must deal with that are like second nature to us, but here at MultiView, we serve such a wide array of associations and industries, that our tasks aren’t ever really dull or even the same day to day.
Whether it’s with the MultiView Buyer’s Guides or MultiBriefs news briefs, there is something new and different to deal with every single day . It may simply be a different set of contacts to converse with or, in my case, a different set of news stories in a multitude of different genres to pull. (And please don’t think I’ve forgotten about the “behind the scenes” work that goes on in other departments – I’ll cover that in another post.)
What I’m really trying to say though, is that to accomplish the monstrous goals that are set for us at MultiView, every single employee has to come in with a positive outlook. My advice to achieving that positive attitude? Find what makes you happy, and focus on it – no matter how trivial or “lame” others may find it.
Who knows? That nerdy thing you find so awesome, that keeps your spirits high, may be the one thing setting you apart from those who aren’t as successful.
