MultiView, School Nutrition Association Host Millennial Impact Roundtable

Addressing one of the most common challenges in association membership recruitment and retention, MultiView and the School Nutrition Association hosted a Millennial Impact Roundtable in National Harbor, Md., on Oct. 25, 2017. The half-day event focused specifically on how to attract, engage and retain members from Generation Y and featured two generational researchers, a panel discussion and a culminating attendee roundtable discussion. In the end, themes of communication, membership structure, leadership challenges, and overall image and perception emerged about this dynamic group of emerging professionals.

The symposium featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Suzanne Martin and Christopher Cullen from the Zodiac Group. They presented strong generational data and case studies, providing insights into millennial trajectories and projections for building new leadership within an association.

A panel discussion led by MultiView’s President Dan Maitland followed. The discussion, entitled “Engaging Young Professionals Within Your Association” allowed attendees to hear from a panel of association experts on topics of communication, membership structure, leadership challenges and overall images and perceptions regarding the millennial generation.

Panelists included: Nick Serfass from the American Institute of Architects; Stefanie Dove, Registered Dietician and School Nutrition Marketing Coordinator for Loudoun County Public Schools and spokesperson for the American Dairy Association Northeast; Matthew MacLaren, Senior Vice President of Member Relations for the American Hotel and Lodging Association; and Trevor Mitchell, Senior Director of Membership and Strategy at American Mensa, Ltd.

According to MultiView’s EVP of Marketing/Publishing Colby Horton, “What came out of the millennial session was some great dialogue and quick, implementable ideas. Based on the engagement level, these association execs have a true passion to better serve this younger generation and get them more involved in leading their associations.”
